Deepavali festival
Last week we had special celebrations at JRDT Orphanage due to the Deepavali festival! The Deepavali festival is also known as the festival of lights and is a big holiday in all of India. During the festival we light a small special clay lamp which we leave on the whole night. This is a symbol for the good, the light, conquering the evil, the dark. We also light firecrackers as a symbol for driving away evil spirits and of course we eat a lot of snacks and sweets. What would a holiday be without something sweet? At the Orphanage all the kids got to light there very own firecrackers. They thought it was a lot of fun and very exciting and would have loved to light even more firecrackers! |
