VERY VERY VERY BUSY

Everything has been so busy here it is difficult to find time to update the site! We have had another Dental Camp with tooth inspection and instruction on dental care and distribution of brushes and paste. Of the 275 people, old and young, inspected, only 5 had no problems. All the rest had problems. The good news is that there will be a follow-up mobile clinic for treatment in a few days. This will be with Raagas Dental Collage located near Chennai who will bring at least 8 Dentists. We are paying some transport costs and refreshments. Also all the medicines, about 25 pounds. Mark King and Sarah from Banyan Branch are sharing the cost of this with JRDT, with support from their friends in U.K.

Other work has included countless trips to hospitals and Doctors for a multitude of patients for treatment for a variety of ailments, some very serious. A successful operation for a young boy with a Hydrocele testicle was also carried out in Hindu Mission Hospital. This was sponsored through the Lions Club in Chegalpattu, kindly recommended by Jeyaraj of RIDE Charity.

We have been cooperating a lot recently with Mark King and it is good to have more input, but our budget is still very stretched. Every day we meet more people with urgent need of medical attention. Some need costly operations. We have one lady in need of surgery to remove a large mammory cyst, hopefully benign. Test results still awaited. Another lady has thyroid problems in the form of a goitre, and a man with nephrosis, the excretion of albumin protein in the urine. We hope for sponsorship for some of these cases but incidental costs are still high.

We have also been busy establishing regular Physiotherapy for a beautiful 8 year old Cerebral Palsy girl named Savitha. She is a fisherman's daughter. Unfortunately her mother passed away, so it is hard work for her father to take care of all her needs, though he is very devoted. We hope that a good Government physiotherapy center will be established in our location soon, as is promised, and that we will be able to support and encourage this and bring many children to it.

Moral is very low in some of the Rural villages where we work and we are trying to raise self esteem and foster a feeling of hope for a better future through self empowerment.

The pictures above illustrate our work.We hope to update the site again soon. Do please contact us and support or work if you are able and would like to do so. See the posting CONTACT US for email and website address.

FOOT SAVED!

This small boy is the son of one of our Night School Teachers. We were shocked when we saw the condition of his foot which was badly infected and had not received proper treatment We took him straight to Dr. Kumar. The foot was lanced and cleaned and antibiotics were given. Only just in time before more serious conditions would set in. The boy is now fine. The foot looks normal and he is walking again. The pain has subsided. Lucky the situation was caught in time and dealt with properly. Situations like this often develop to the extent that blood poisoning sets in, leading to dangerously high fever, maybe resulting in permanent damage to the brain. Of course the foot itself could also have been lost. Happy ending this time though!

SORRY FOR NO RECENT UPDATES

We have been so busy with the work recently there has been no time to update the site.
One great success has been the provision of wheel chairs with the kind sponsorship or Dr. Hans, SISTER ORGANIZATION Germany. Also a Hearing Aid for one young man who has been waiting for over a year. Everyone was so happy. To be able to hear again and move freely about is truly a miracle. Thanks to everybody who supports us, and to Raj for all the hard work in the heat. I will post pictures and a full report as soon as possible.
